Last month, Levi's got in touch with me about their new line of jeans for Target, Denizen. They sent me a few pairs to try, and I could not be happier! Above, I'm wearing their skinnies in a light blue I'm not used to wearing. I always go for a darker blue, so I went a little experimental with a rougher texture, lighter blue than I normally do. I loved them - perfect fit, great material for the low price. They also sent me a pair for Cade - and he loves them too! He says they were almost exactly the same as his Levi's 511s.

As you can see, I have moved to Brooklyn, Williamsburg to be exact. It's so much inspiring to do personal blogging here. These were taken at Grand Ferry Park, my favorite spot to take guests for a stunning view of the city. Consequently, I've decided to start a "Versus" feature, letting you decide which outfits you like while also revealing the potential for versatility in your own wardrobe. I've found when getting dressed, I come up with multiple options for one outfit, more than one look using using the same basic pieces, so I'm excited to inspire you with my options. Easily bored with my wardrobe, I have the tendency to overshop although I have perfectly great pieces to remix. Hopefully this new section will encourage you, along with me, to stop mindlessly purchasing and be a little more creative instead!

I'm so excited to share this dress as my first piece of the new feature. Yesterday I was going through an attic closet at my parent's house (where I'm living this summer) when I found this fantastic tan dress with an intricate beaded neckline. I assumed it was one of mother's many vintage dresses but upon asking her about, she informed me it was my grandmother's wedding rehearsal dinner dress from 1954. How cool! I was actually named after my grandmother; her married name is Morgan. It's great to carry her name on, as well as her style. On a side note, I'm so blessed to have all four of my sweet grandparents in my life! It's wonderful to learn from their many years of wisdom, as well as simply enjoying their humor.

My grandmother's dress reminded me that with clothing trends, what goes around, really comes back around. We all know pockets and neutrals were recent trends, but longer lengths have been making a show all over the runways for fall 2012. Right at the knee or lower, hems have stayed traditional for most designers, like Ralph Lauren and Valentino. Also, the ornate embellishments of the Baroque period seems to have influenced current designers, like Balmain and Louis Vuitton, who featured intricate beadwork on their pieces for the fall. As seen at Stella McCartney and Etro, botanical ornamentation in particular were another Baroque-inspired trend I found in my grandmother's dress. So let this be a lesson to all of you youngsters like me: you don't have to buy something new every season; there are classic pieces that will last you a lifetime (and maybe even your granddaughter's) if you chose carefully.

Beading detail on the dress

For the more traditional feel of the work outfit, I chose an oversized clutch, leopard belt and House of Harlow ring to keep the look current. Remember, to keep your legs from looking stumpy in a longer dress, wear open heels. Booties or ankle straps will the line of your leg off. For the playful outfit, I chose my lace sneakers to balance out the white embroidery of the collar line. I also pinned the hem of the dress to create the asymmetrical look that's become quite a trend (and to make the cut more flattering of course).

I wanted to share with all of you what I worked my final semester at AU. To complete the Honors program, each student had to create an independent study in literally whatever we wanted. Since my passions lie in the magazine industry, fashion, and fine arts, I decided to meld everything into my own fashion and fine arts magazine, Mojo Magazine. I'm blessed to have incredibly talented friends - artists, models, and everywhere in between - who helped me the entire process. Being able to control my own publication entirely - photography, design, styling, everything - taught me how incredibly well I'd thrive in a creative position in the fashion world. I'm so proud of my work and can't believe there have already been over 20,000 unique page views. Take a chance to look through it and let me know what you think!
I loved seeing my absolute favorite post-Impressionists: Matisse, van Gogh, Cezanne. The colors, the brushstrokes, everything becomes more unbelievably beautiful in person. Life goal: to own one of the great modern masters.
Wow, I can't believe the last time I posted was in September... Time has certainly flown! As you may know, I'm in my senior year at American University and I graduate in MAY. but this is turning point in my life I'm actually looking forward to as I've gotten to the point where school seems to be holding me back and I just want to break free and use that time to pursue other interests. Like blogging. I've seriously had no time to even take photos but I'm not complaining because I love what's running my life: AmLit, Bethesda Magazine, and now Katzen. More updates later though, I've got a busy weekend ahead of me - heading to NYC!
On Monday night, Georgetown’s rag & bone celebrated their grand opening with a fashionable fête hosted by the designers themselves, Marcus Wainright and David Neville. Packed with many local fashion VIPs, the event unveiled a DIY photo project: self-portraits taken by rag & bone’s DC-area brand ambassadors. Selected style influencers from around the city were asked to choose pieces from the Fall/Winter collection and to photograph themselves donning them in any self-expressive manner.
Guests packed in shoulder-to-shoulder wearing casual, tailored looks, similar to the label’s signature style. Male guests tended to favor the classic British look of fitted vests, blazers and quirky ties. Amongst the women was a mix of brights and neutrals, maxis and minis, along with both eclectic and preppy vibes.

Notable attendees included T.H.E Artist Agency's Lynda Erkiletian and stylist Paul Wharton. Also in attendance were the Ambassadors, who ranged from Pum and Jake Lefebure of Design Army, style blogger Brooke Kao, filmmaker Nicholas Cambata, Project Beltway’s Rachel Cothran, and Septime Webre, artistic director of the Washington Ballet.

Rag & bone’s Georgetown location had its soft opening in May, and was the first of the label’s stores outside of NYC. Located on 3067 M Street, the store’s interior features exposed brick walls, giant metal beams, ceiling lamps wrapped in twine, and weathered concrete floors. The contrast of this industrial space with the line’s classic pieces showcases the ingenuity of Wainwright and Neville that led them to receive the Menswear Designers of the Year award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.Morgan Jordanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13032888244308609611noreply@blogger.com24Washington, DC, USA38.8951118 -77.036365838.7962463 -77.1942943 38.993977300000005 -76.8784373tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7993510364089322402.post-74129607506323073362011-09-09T17:48:00.000-04:002014-10-14T12:59:16.529-04:00Radius Pizza and Rainy DaysIt's been thunderstorming for the past few days... ugh! Fashion's Night Out was last night but who was in the mood to go trek around in the rain? However, today is bright and sunny though and I can't wait for Free Fest tomorrow!! I'll be seeing the Black Keys, Deadmau5, Bombay Bicycle Club, Cut Copy, !!!, TV on the Radio, Okkervil River, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and so many others. Also, seeing Ben Kweller (for free as well) tonight at my school.

And in not free news, Cory and I recently went to Radius Pizza for their pizza and pint happy hour - $5 for a pint and a slice. So basically it's cheaper to buy a huge slice of pizza along with a pint instead of just some beer. Who can complain? Cory and I both got cheese, tomato, sausage, and feta. Be sure to visit them any time between 5 and 7 p.m. for the best way to spend $5 (besides at a thrift store).
I love discovering new, funky neighborhoods in DC and this was certainly one of them. There are so many great vintage and home decor stores in that part of town! Plus great restaurants. I'll definitely be back. That's what I love about a city like this: another day, another new sight... or taste.

I just got back from my trip to Florida to visit my family. A nice little break from the thunderstorm weather of DC. I'll post photos soon of my family, their cool houses, and all of their doggies!

A lot of you have been asking about my new ombré hair and I'm excited to share it! Before, it was just getting too long and boring... I haven't had it cut for almost a year. So why not bleach my ends? I bought a box of bleach from CVS, divided my hair into pigtails, and used a fat toothbrush to spread it all on. I ended up leaving it on for about almost two hours. I liked it how it looked when I was done but it was too yellowy and stringy at the end so I went and got my haircut and toned. Now it's sort of hard to see the blonde but it looks less harsh. I might even end up bleaching the ends again... What do you think??

It makes everything you photograph look so much better: people, food... I mean it, anything. I wish I had bought it a long time ago! Now I'm thinking of upgrading the body but that's a little bit more of an investment.

Normally, I'm not so matchy matchy with my accessories but I couldn't believe how well the headband and belt worked together! This look was a little more hippie than I normally do but I love how it turned out!

PS I dyed my hair blonde at the tips, the ombre look last night so I'll have to post photos soon!

I still have so many photos from Europe to put up. I really need to do a post every day - but do I catch y'all up on the past or focus on what's going on with me right now?

Anyway, these were from about a month ago when I traveled to Salado, TX for a family reunion and for my grandfather's 90th birthday. Big year for him!! I assumed I'd be quite bored in a town with less than 5000 inhabitants but we found a lot of cute little boutiques and lots of sights along the road. Here are some photos from our day of shopping.

I just had to pack up and move back to DC (thrilled to be here) and I've just finished celebrating my 5th anniversary with my boyfriend Cory! Plus, I've just become the assistant to Andrea Rodgers, Editor in Chief of AskMissA.com and CEO of Socialite Marketing. Busy lady - more details later!

These photos were taken at the beach a few weekends ago when my friends Rachael and Anisa were in town. Anisa's family has a beautiful lake house right outside of Memphis, which I love to visit.

Anisa and I out on the boat! My week has been crazy busy and crazy exciting. My best friend's older sister is getting married on Saturday and there have been so many festivities already, including more tonight and tomorrow! Also, tonight I'm heading to the Art Walk on South Main Street in downtown Memphis where all the museums are open late and the trolleys are running for free. Today was my last day at work since I head to DC on August 3rd. I'm excited to get back to my other home, as much as I love Memphis.

Here's an outfit from awhile ago, so not with my lens but I thought I'd share anyway. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Shirt: H&M / Shorts: Forever 21 / Belt: UO / Oxfords: F21 / Hat: UOMorgan Jordanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13032888244308609611noreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7993510364089322402.post-14389922890549054552011-07-26T23:15:00.001-04:002011-07-26T23:16:57.852-04:007 days, 7 faves: summer bloggersI can't even imagine wearing some of the layers these bloggers are as it's close to 100 degrees during the day here! Nonetheless, here are my favorite looks from this week:

Claire from De Lune: I'm not sure what I'm loving more - Claire's short red hair or the way she combines seemingly mismatched colors of accessories, from tan to black to brown.

Priscila from My Showroom: A preppier, prettier Carrie Bradshaw, Priscila shows us how to mix not two but three patterns at once: stripes and two types of floral.

Golestaneh from Golestaneh Street Style: An oversized blazer and skinny jeans is still a perfect casual look, but especially with rich tan leather.

Fernanda from Type Fash: I love the way Fernanda pairs neutrals with a big splash of neon. Her look is classic yet contemporary.

Kathleen from Inspirafashion: What’s not to love about mixed lace and mixed neutrals? Plus, the monochromatic booties are a dealmaker.

Willabelle from Pale Division: If you ever sat there wondering how to wear the exact same shade of orange twice in one ensemble, now you know! A small peek of the color under kickass Doc Martens with a high-waisted skirt is the perfect way.

Maddy from Po Mojej Stronie Lustra: Pleats and stripes are a common theme in my favorites but Maddy's look is refreshing with her tied shirt and emerald skirt. And that is one great bag.
Morgan Jordanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13032888244308609611noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7993510364089322402.post-64455162627405516342011-07-26T00:16:00.004-04:002011-07-26T00:30:32.961-04:00Pink TonesI had two clothing accomplishments within the past week. 1.) I bought something that wasn't neutral: the pink J. Crew tank top. It was on sale for 12 dollars and I really need some color in my wardrobe. 2.) I found a way to wear my floral platforms (although I want to wear them with just about everything). I took some photo editing tips from The World Looks Red, giving my photos a faded look.

Yesterday was a lazy Sunday, watching comedians on Netflix all day, like Jim Gaffigan's Beyond the Pale. He made me seriously laugh out loud for about an hour with mostly food jokes. I never thought Hot Pockets, cake and ordering delivery could be so hilarious.

Top: J. I just got a new lens that I love!! It's the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 so basically it lets in more light than my previous lens, giving my photos a sharper quality and a better depth of field.

Also, I want some new glasses so I ordered five trial pairs from this awesome website, Warby Parker. For every pair you buy, they donate a pair to someone in need. Plus they're only 95 dollars, including the Rx lenses! Such a good deal. So I need help deciding which ones to keep! Which do you like best??

1. Begley

2. Me, of course. Me and 85,000 others - at Bonnaroo of course! I suffered (expect not really because it was a BLAST) because I got to see The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, Arcade Fire, Florence + the Machine, the Decemberists, Beirut, Robyn, Freelance Whales, Greensky Bluegrass, Pretty Lights, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Bassnectar, Lil Wayne, Alison Krauss, Portugal. The Man, Buffalo Springfield, Iron & Wine, Explosions in the Sky, and Widespread Panic. After a whole weekend of listening to music, I had to steal my giant speakers back from my little brother to continue the experience. As hot as it was, it really was such a perfect vacation being able to camp with your friends, meet new people, and of course chill out and listen to fantastic bands.

My biggest complaint about the weekend was how crowded it was. It's great to share an experience with 85,000 people but the lines were frustratingly long this year, and a lot of people weren't there with good intentions. I was shocked at how often we got ripped off... at a smaller festival, that would never happen.

Top: borrowed / Shorts: thrifted / Purse: borrowed / Sandals: F21 / Bikini: Fossil / Hat: flea market / Feather earrings: UO / Sunglasses: Free People

On the way in!

Tons of amazing jewelry vendors.

One of the many walls of graffiti art at Roo.

Ponies are a hell of a lot cuter than cop cars.

Yeah, our tent was a little ridiculous...

The flag that led us home

The campsite!

A typical Bonnaroo sight - musicians on their cars.

ARCADE FIRE!

Pretty Lights (a dubstep DJ who put on one of the best shows I've ever seen)

When you stay out til sunrise, Bonnaroo gets a little eerie.

Currently listening to: Mumford & Sons
Currently reading: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

PS My family's black lab, Tucker, is chasing a bumblebee around the yard and it's pretty adorable. After I found I wasn't going to be in NYC this summer, I decided I needed to do exciting - and Bonnaroo is only a 4 hour drive. I'm soooo excited to see Arcade Fire, the Black Keys, Florence + the Machine, Ratatat, Sleigh Bells, Beirut, Mumford and Sons, Lil Wayne, the Decemberists, !!!, Bassnectar, Matt & Kim, and Cold War Kids!! This is gonna be a greaaaat (and grimy) and weekend. I've been before a few years ago but if you have packing suggestions, that'd be great! It's a 4 day camping music fest, in case you didn't know.

Blazer: thrift, $2 / Tee: Theory / Pants; H&M / Wedges: H&M / Watch: La Mer (gift) / Cuff: Indigo / Ring: House of Harlem

Currently listening to: Portugal. Here I found this amazing pair of seventies platforms that happened to be in my size. Unfortunately they were almost 60 bucks... but I noticed that the soles were peeling up a little bit so I talked them down to 35 dollars! Score! Now all I have to do is repair them.

What do I suggest I wear them with? I'm thinking skinny jeans and a loose white top.

PS Thank you so much to all my new followers and commenters - I really appreciate all of your feedback. :)Morgan Jordanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13032888244308609611noreply@blogger.com31
